NaPoWriMo Day 4
A prompt from NaPoWriMo.net.
Robert Duvall
I think I was doing dishes in my farmhouse kitchen
I recall a dish towel flung over my shoulder
When Robert Duvall came down the stairs from the bedroom
folding up his sleeves for a rough day of farming
And I, the dutiful wife, brought Robert Duvall a Cup-A-Soup
and a stack of Form 1040 tax papers
He smiled of course, his eyes were those Robert Duvall eyes
and he seemed to appreciate me thinking of his lunch
I have to think some part of me means to bring order to this world
preserve tradition in the modern times
And it could only be carried out in dreams like these
where I relegate myself to the sidelines, a supporting character
